Parque Aquatico Mijas

The ‘Parque Aquatico Mijas’ is a large waterpark located in a handy spot just off the N340 outside the centre of Fuengirola. It’s easily reachable within 20 minutes’ drive if you are staying in any of the resort along the coast, from Benalmadena to Marbella. The park opens annually from early may to late September and prices start at 17 Euros for children up to 23 Euros for an adult. In my opinion this is good value for a full day of waterslides, whirlpools and rapids!

The waterpark is great for all the family. Young children will love ‘Lizard Island’, the adventure playground with water shooting out of every angle. The shallow kid’s pool surrounds Lizard Island so very young children can paddle and splash around here. Slightly older children will love the wide ‘Body Ski’ slides that bump you down into the water and the ‘adventure River’ ride which you shoot down in giant rubber rings.

For more adventurous riders there is the ‘Labyrinth of Slides’, several shoots that twist and turn around in all direction before dumping you (usually upside down) into the pool at the bottom. The ‘Kamikaze’ is for the ultimate daredevils, a 15 metre (almost vertical) drop into the water below.  This is lots of fun but make sure your swimming costume is on tightly!

For those of you wanting a more relaxed experience there is the ‘Blue Lake’ pool which is nice and shallow so you can just hang around in here to cool off. The wave pool is also great for cooling off in, but watch out for those big waves when the water starts rippling. At the end of the day you may fancy a relaxing sit in the Jacuzzi.

If you want a break from all the splashing around you can chill out on your sun lounger and catch some sun, play a round of mini golf or watch one of the kid’s performances that take place in the summer months.

The park has a restaurant and cafeteria where you can find sandwiches, burgers, chips, ice creams etc. Alcohol is available to buy but drink in moderation to avoid any accidents! You can leave your possessions in the locker rooms provided and there are also shower and toilet facilities for you to use.

Parque Aquatico Mijas is open from 10:30am to 7pm in peak season and it gets very busy so get there early to grab a free sun lounger and avoid the queues. Another piece of very useful advice is WEAR LOTS OF SUNSCREEN! The park is a suntrap and going in and out of the water all day can wash cream off easily so reapply and keep an eye on the kids particularly.

I would thoroughly recommend Parque Aquatico Mijas as a fun day out whatever you age. If you don’t like water then give this a miss but if waterparks are your thing then you’ll love it!
