Dolna Banya is located in South Western Bulgaria in the Sofia Province. It is only 75km from the capital city of Sofia and the second largest city, Plovdiv.
Dolna Banya is one of the best spa towns in Bulgaria due to its famous hot mineral waters that fill the surrounding lakes and rivers. It also has extremely pure mountain air due to its high altitude and high ionisation in the air, this is said to have fantastic health benefits particularly for those suffering form respiratory problems like asthma. The hot mineral water fills many pools in the surrounding areas and with the water temperature being on average 67.5 degree centigrade you'll enjoy taking a dip in whatever the weather. Because of its location below the Rila mountain range, Dolna Banya enjoys a micro climate and has on average 260 days of sunshine a year.
If you are a fan of the great outdoors Dolna Banya will be heaven. There are many outdoor pursuits that are readily available to you with walking, cycling, fishing and skiing being right on your doorstep. For the more adventurous traveller there is Bulgaria's first private airfield situated just outside the town where you can take flying lessons! The scenery surrounding Dolna Banya is breathtaking with the luscious greenery of the Rila mountain range towering above you and the lakes and rivers all around you really will feel like you're at one with nature.
The town centre also offers plenty to do. There is a good selection of restaurants serving both traditional Bulgarian food and international. This is not the place for you if you're a real party animal but there are a handful of lively bars to choose from if you fancy a few drinks in the evening.
If you’re staying in Dolna Banya it is likely that you will be spending lots of your time in Rila National Park, Bulgaria’s largest national park and home to many rare wildlife species like the Grey Wolf and the Brown Bear. The Rila Mountain ranges offer great skiing conditions with Europe's 6th highest mountain towering above you- Mount Musala.
