About the area
Sal is the most developed of all the Cape Verdian Islands and much of the island is still fairly baron with a moon-like landscape. On the north of the island you'll find a huge salt lake in an extinct volcano crater, Pedra Lume - a sight definitely worth seeing! The capital, Espargos is also worth a trip if you want more of an idea of the local culture and heritage. In terms of tourism, most of the action on Sal goes on in Santa Maria.
