About the area
Paralimni is the largest town in the local area. It is just 10km away from Protaras yet it is much quieter and less affected by tourism. After the Turkish invasion in 1974 Paralimni was transformed from a relatively insignificant town into the administrative headquarters for the Greek controlled area of Famagusta. The town has developed lots since then but still retains its traditional feel. There is an attractive town square and pretty gardens in the centre of town. There are also enough shops, restuarants and bars to keep you entertained. If you want to sample traditional Cypriot cuisine then take a trip away from the hustle and bustle of Protaris or Ayia Napa and have a meal in any of the tavernas in Paralimni; you won't regret it.
