About the area

Vence is located inland from the French Riviera in the Alpes-Maritime region.  It is just 20 minutes drive from Nice and close to Cannes and the famous Maonte Carlo.  Vence is a picturesque medieval town surrounded by wonderful countryside and is a great choice of destination for walkers, cyclists and skiers.  The town has its own micro climate and has very mild temperatures all year round despite being only an hour away from the nearest ski resorts.

Vence has always attracted artists, poets and writers.  Matisse, Chagall, D.H Lawrence and Dufy are just some of the famous names that have been part of the srtistic scene in this attractive town.  Matisse loved the town so much that he built ad decorated the Chapelle du Rosaire for locals and spent years working on this masterpiece.  Another building of note in the medieval town is the 10th century cathedral whch is the smallest in the whole of France.

Vence has some excellent bars and restaurants ranging from the 2 Mitchelin starred Maximin down to cheaper pizza retaurants and cafes.  The old part of the town is prticularly pretty and many of the restaurants have outside seating allowing you to enjoy the wonderful views while you eat.
