Mykonos is the most popular tourist destination in the Cyclades group of islands that it belongs to.  With more than 300 days of sunshine a year and picture postcard white washed towns it’s easy to see what the attraction is.  Mykonos attracts a varied crowd, from families with young children to the hip and trendy gay crowd.  Mykonos Town is full of buzzing cafes, bars and restaurants but it retains a laid back attitude and its narrow alleyways are full of little boutiques and tiny higgledy piggledy houses which add to its charm.

Mykonos is a great choice for those who like a bit of history too.  The World Heritage listed island of Delos is just a couple of kilometres offshore and is said to the the mythical birthplace of Greek gods, Apollo and Artemis.  It is full of temples and shrines which will fascinate any budding archaeologists!

Mykonos has some fabulous beaches.  The most famous of which is probably Agios Ioannis which was featured in the film “Shirley Valentine.”  It has the best views of Delos Island and crystal clear waters lapping onto white sands so it’s easy to see why it’s so popular.  There are also a few bars and restaurants lining the beach which are great for enjoying a cold beer in.  If you’re looking for something a little livelier head to Ornos beach which has a range of watersposrts on offer and various bars and restaurants to chill out in.  This is the closest beach to Mykonos Town and does get a little crowded in summer but it’s great for people watching and the views of Mykonos Town are great from here, you can see the houses clinging precariously to the cliff above!
