About the area
The island of Santorini is located in the Cyclades Islands in the middle of the Greek Islands in the sparkling Aegean Sea.
The name of the island refers back to Saint Irene and is related to the legend of Atlantis. Santorini is famous for its geological past and awe-inspiring sunsets and sunrises. Santorini does however offer much more than this and spoils its visitors with an abundance of choice. The black and red beaches that lead down to the crystal clear sea are spread all over the island while the shops and nightlife never end in the capital Fira.
The islands inhabitants have made their living from the sea for centuries and boat-trips to take you to secluded coves for swimming and fishing are plentiful. Fantastic restaurants, tavernas and cafes are interwoven amongst the white-washed villages and towns of Santorini and provide a taste of authentic Greece, whilst catering for every international palate. The food is perfectly complemented by the wine that is produced form the islands vineyards.
Santorini's soft sea breezes, fantastic climate, friendly people, fabulous beaches, rich history and sense of adventure will only ever leave you wanting more.
