About the area

Zakynthos, otherwise known as Zante is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and although small in size this beautiful island has no shortage of attributes that will ensure that you have an unforgettable holiday here.  The beaches on Zakynthos are undoubtedly its biggest selling point.  It's not just the beautiful white sands and crystal clear waters that are so appealing but the abundance of nature sharing these waters.  They are teaming with brightly coloured fish and if you're very lucky you may even spot a loggerhead turtle as they are regularly spotted swimming gracefully through the waters surrounding the island, an unbelievable sight.  There are no end of watersports available on the island if you fancy something more adventurous.

The Islands capital, Zante Town is a great place to visit in the evenings when you can spend time walking around the harbour stopping off at bars and eating in one of the many great restaurants on offer.  The Venetian plazas in the capital are lined with great shops selling everything from leather goods to jewellery and clothes.

Laganas is the exception to the peaceful, laid back nature of Zakynthos.  If you want nightclubs and bars open until the early hours then Laganas is the place to go.  There are other resorts such as Kalamaki and Tsilivi which offer a good selection of bars but are a little less raucous than Laganas.

To sum up Zakynthos in one image think of sitting in a traditional greek taverna on a balmy evening enjoying drinks at sunset over stunningly clear waters whilst being served by friendly locals- this is the real Zakynthos.
