Directions

  1. From Malaga Airport by car you will turn right (west) onto the A7 (E15) road.
  2. Follow signs towards Algeciras.
  3. The first landmark you will see is a large BMW garage about 1.5 km from airport.
  4. At this point the road splits into the coastal N340 and the newer inland A7 (E15).
  5. You need to take the inland route which takes you over one mountain. To take this route stay in the right hand lane as you pass BMW, this lane will veer to the right and take you uphill onto the A7 (E15) motorway.
  6. This road snakes uphill for several kms, at the final crest as the road starts its descent you will be looking down onto Fuengirola.
  7. Halfway down this descent the road splits yet again into a new toll road (AP7) and the non-toll route A7.
  8. You need to take the NON toll route so stay in the right hand lane which veers off to the right and sweeps round to join the old coast road. (So don’t worry if leaving the airport you remained on the coast road, it still ends up at Fuengirola, it just takes longer).
  9. After the A7 splits from the toll road junction you need to take the 4th exit off the motorway. This is just after huge new round glass building with a large blue sign saying HIPERCOR. You cannot miss this building, as you turn off you will see marker KM 210 and as you drive down the off ramp you will easily see VICTORIA FORD garage.
  10. Turn right (90 degrees) here and you will be heading directly away from the sea. This road leads gently uphill directly to Urbanizacion Campo Mijas about 1km from Victoria Ford.
  11. As you drive up the road go straight across the three roundabouts, the last one has a statue with 3 doves on it and you will see a restaurant either side of the road and a small supermarket called El Coto, the entrance to Campo Mijas is straight on shortly after this and is marked by a split archway.
  12. We are on the main road through Campo Mijas which is called Calle Los Cupresos. Shortly past the arch the road takes a sharp bend uphill to the left. At this bend there is a waterfall with flowers and large urns set into the wall in front of you (lit at night) with the Los Cupresos sign on the high wall.
  13. Follow the road left at this point. Stay on this road snaking uphill; Villa El Horizonte is the very top house. If you keep going uphill you can’t go wrong. We have a bright blue garage door set in the high white garden wall, our driveway is just after the garage door. There is a tiled sign with “EL HORIZONTE 45” on the wall which is lit at night. The villa itself is painted pale blue with a large mural on the driveway wall.

Other Local Information

Mijas Costa

Mijas Costa is the area covering the coastline from Torremolinos to Marbella incorporating such resorts as Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Calahonda, La Cala, El Faro, Riviera etc.

La Sierrezuela, El Coto, Las Lomas de Mijas and Campo Mijas are in the area known as Laguna de Mijas, all being exclusive residential areas set in the countryside (campo) between Fuengirola and the old town of Mijas, thus offering easy access to both the coast and the mountains.

Mijas

The village of Mijas is one of the oldest towns in Spain, steeped in history and culture it comes as no surprise this charming village still proves to be a popular tourist attraction today. Perched high up on the hillside you can explore the narrow cobbled streets and enjoy the stunning views in one of many view-points/resting places located all over the village. The Andalucia white-washed houses add to the character and charm of this village with numerous traditional Spanish craft shops, bars and restaurants. A leisurely stroll will provide an excellent opportunity to find a wonderful souvenir to take home with plenty of small shops offering leather goods, ceramics, jewellery, paintings and more. If your legs are tired from all the walking or you fancy a novel experience, why not stop by the Tourist Office and try the famous donkey taxi service and take a tour around Mijas on a donkey's back, typically around 12 euros.
