Over the last few years, Alhaurin de la Torre has seen tremendous growth due to investment in infrastructure, such as major highways. This booming infrastructure has caused the town’s economy to flourish rapidly.

History of Alhaurin de la Torre

Alhaurin de la Torre was first settled by the Phoenicians around 1000 BC and has had an influx of visitors and settlers ever since. The site was significant during Roman times and was possibly close to the site of the Battle of Munda, the final battle of Julius Caeser’s civil war.

Alhaurin de la Torre was occupied by the Moors after the Islamic conquest of Iberia and continued to grow and prosper under their rule. You can still find evidence of Moorish rule in Alhaurin de la Torre by looking at the traditional whitewashed terrace houses. The population of the town grew rapidly after the Reconquista and the influx of Christian settlers.

Similar to many other towns in the south of Spain, Alhaurin de la Torre saw a rapid urbanisation in the 1960’s thanks to the booming tourism industry. Alhaurin de la Torre continues to grow and develop thanks to it’s proximity to Malaga and easy access to the coast.
