A History of Arroyo de la Miel

Once a village in its own right, Arroyo de la Miel has a long history of occupation from a variety of cultures and peoples, such as Phoenicians, Romans and the Moors. The village was well known in the 18th century for producing paper that supplied the Royal factory of Playing Cards in Malaga. 

During the birth and development of Spain’s tourism boom of the '50s and '60s Arroyo de la Miel’s population rapidly increased as tourists started to flock to the Costa del Sol from all across Europe. 

Recent years have continued to be an exciting time for development as locals watched on and experienced the opening of Tivoli World, the areas most popular theme park, along with the building of the cable car in Arroyo de la Miel that carries locals to the peak of Mount Calamorro.

  5. Selwo Dolphinarium - presents a unique insight into the worlds of Dolphins, Sea lions and penguins. The penguins live on their own specially cooled island and daily shows give visitors the chance to interact with these incredible animals.

  5. Malapesquera Beach - one of the busiest beaches in the area. This beach offers boat hire and a range of water sport activities. It is located near the Benalmadena Marina and is home to the Festival of the Virgen del Carmen, which is celebrated each year in mid-July.

Arroyo de la Miel Weather

As the name would suggest, The Costa del Sol is well known for its sunshine and delightful climate, and Arroyo de la Miel is no different. The Mediterranean climate is lovely during the summer months from May until the end of September. Travel Information for Arroyo de la Miel

Arroyo de la Miel is around 15 minutes’ drive from Malaga Airport. It also has a train station, Renfe train station, which is located near to Tivoli World and connects Arroyo de la Miel to Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. The train service from Malaga Airport is regular, cheap and reliable so this is a great way to get to Arroyo de la Miel if you don’t wish to hire a car.

There is also a range of local Portillo buses that connects Arroyo de la Miel to Mijas, Benalmádena Pueblo, Benalmádena Costa and Torremolinos. The local bus is a great way to get to the beaches on Benalmádena Costa.
