This sleepy village has retained its traditional Andulasian charm and invites visitors to wander its charming narrow cobbled streets and explore the beautiful white-washed building and relaxed terraces.

A History of Benalmadena Pueblo

Evidence found in local caves suggests that Benalmadena Pueblo was first populated around 20,000 years ago. Since then the area has been visited by many different cultures. The Phoenicians profited from mining the area and the Romans benefited from the trade opportunities of the Mediterranean.

The Moors erected a fortress around the village after the Islamic conquest of Iberia in the 11th century. Benalmadena Pueblo was also the birthplace of one of the greatest scientists of al-Andalus, Ibn al-Baytar.

Benalmadena Pueblo was destroyed during the Reconquista by Christian armies but was eventually resettled in the 18th century and continued to grow and develop.

Much like the rest of the Costa del Sol, Benalmadena Pueblo underwent major growth and development during the Spanish tourism boom of the '50s and '60s. The Benalmadena Pueblo was connected with Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel to become the town of Benalmadena, one of the most popular tourist destination in Southern Spain.
