Campo Mijas is a residential area that is just behind Fuengirola and nearby to the village of Mijas, in the Costa del Sol. It is peaceful and quieter than many of the other resorts in the area and is perfect for those looking for a more tranquil holiday destination, that is still close to a wide range of amenities. 

Campo Mijas is perfectly located close to a variety of nearby tourist hotspots, including Fuengirola, the Mijas coast and the village of Mijas itself. With so much to see and do so close to you, Campo Mijas makes an excellent villa holiday destination. 

History of Campo Mijas

Campo Mijas is a peaceful and charming residential area that is surrounded by luscious countryside. It has a similar history to many towns and villages on the Costa del Sol and has been occupied by many different groups, such as Romans and the Moors. 

It became popular during the tourism boom of the ‘60s and ‘70s with those who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the larger resorts of the Costa del Sol. 

Things to do in Campo Mijas

Campo Mijas is suitably located within only a short drive of a range local attractions, such as the traditional village of Mijas, with its whitewashed villas and artisan stalls or the coastal town of Fuengirola with its fantastic zoo and beautiful beaches. 

Campo Mijas has a fantastic communal play area for residents and fantastic restaurants that serve delicious international and local cuisine.

El Coto is only a ten-minute walk away and has a range of local amenities, such as a supermarket, chemist and a variety of restaurants. There is also El Potro Sports Bar where you can catch all major sporting events while you are on holiday.

  • Bioparc Fuengirola - this animal-friendly zoo lets you get close and personal to a wide range of exotic animals. This fantastic zoo has a specialised breeding programme for endangered animals and is incredibly educational. Throughout July and August, the zoo stays open until 1am to allow visitors to see the nocturnal species. 

  • Mijas Puebla - An hours walk away through the stunning Mijas Mountains is the traditional village of Mijas. A great location to see traditional Andulacian whitewashed houses whilst doing some souvenir shopping at Mijas’ charming artisan shops. 

  • Sohail Castle - this landmark of Fuengirola was originally built by the Moors in the 10th century. It has been renovated and opened to tourists to allow them to explore the culture and history of the area. It is also used as a venue for festivals and concerts. 

  • Aqua Mijas - one of the most popular attractions of the Costa del Sol, this water park is perfect for families with kids. The Mijas Aqua Park has a variety of rides, pools and to enjoy during your visit, and is a great day out for the whole family.

  • Muralla Gardens –  be sure to visit these gardens if you are visiting Mijas Pueblo. These enchanting gardens are set in the remnants of the old fortress that overlooks the village and is the perfect place for a romantic stroll. Take in the breathtaking views of the whitewashed villas that carry down to the Mediterranean coast.

Campo Mijas is only a short drive away from the glorious beaches of Fuengirola and the Mijas Costa. You have a variety of beaches to choose from, including 5 miles of beautiful sandy beaches that stretch from the Sohail Castle all the way to Torreblanca.

  • Playa de Torreblanca - a must-visit thanks to its relaxed atmosphere. Playa de Torreblanca is quieter than other beaches in the area and is perfect for those who want to relax in the sun. There is a wide range of amenities, including bars and restaurants at this beach and it was awarded a blue flag and a Q award for its excellent facilities and quality. 

  • Playa del Castillo - a very popular beach that is easily recognised thanks to its rows of colourful boats that line the beach. This beautiful sandy beach is also located next to Sohail Castle, which is where it gets its name. 

  • Los Boliches - located in the centre of Fuengirola, right on the promenade. Los Boliches beach was awarded a blue flag because of its excellent facilities and it offers a range of sports and leisure activities. This beach is a great choice for those who want an active beach trip. 

  • Carvajal beach - very popular with families and can often be very busy. Carvajal has a wide range of beach bars and restaurants to visit if you want something to eat and also hosts fun beach activities to take part in. The high standards of cleanliness and excellent facilities have led to Carvajal beach receiving a blue flag award. 

  • La Playa de Santa Amalia - one of the longest beaches in the area and incredibly popular with tourists and locals. This beach is easy to get to from Fuengirola and is connected to Playa del Castillo. Awarded a blue flag for its exceptional facilities and high standards of presentation, this beach received a natural extension. 

Campo Mijas Weather

The Costa del Sol is well known for its pleasant temperatures, and Campo Mijas is no different. The area bathes in the near-constant sunshine of the Costa del Sol and enjoys beautiful summer temperatures. 

The winter months are also pleasant, despite not having the same temperatures. However, it is still fairly warm and sunny, making Campo Mijas a great all year round holiday destination. 

Campo Mijas Travel Information

Campo Mijas’ closest airport is Malaga Airport and is only a 30-35 minutes drive away. The main route through the Costa del Sol is well signposted and easy to navigate. However, we still recommend using an airport transfer to make arriving at your holiday villa simple and cost-effective. 

Once you have arrived at your holiday rental you will find that both car rentals and taxis are widely available, making it incredibly easy to get around.

There is also a convenient and reliable bus route from El Coto that connects Campo Mijas with Fuengirola and then on to the rest of the Costa del Sol, including Mijas, Malaga, Torremolinos and Marbella.
