The seaside resort of Fuengirola has a long promenade with beautiful sandy beachesIntroduction to Fuengirola

Once merely just a fishing village, Fuengirola is now one of the biggest players on the famous Costa del Sol. The town, which is sandwiched between Marbella and Torremolinos, has a full range of hotels, tourist-friendly eateries, buzzing bars and all the chic boutiques you would expect from a top resort, as well as a super-sized sandy beach.

History

In Fuengirola itself, you have Sohail Castle, a structure built in AD 956 to provide strength to the coastal defences. This landmark provides visitors with some great views. Elsewhere, one of the must-see sights in nearby Granada (a two-hour drive away) is Alhambra Palace, a vast 14th century Moorish citadel and architectural delight boasting latticed ceilings and columns.

Mini restaurants in the form of chiringuitos line the beaches to ensure you are well catered for.

This town also embraces its after-dark entertainment, as there is an energetic collection of pubs, tapas bars and bodegas that keep up the true Costa spirit.
