The Top 5 Beaches in Las Lomas de Mijas

Las Lomas de Mijas is located only a short distance from some of the nicest beaches on the Costa del Sol, maybe the whole of Spain. 

The area known as Mijas Costa is a 7-mile strip on the Mediterranean coast that has been developed into a tourists paradise. Las Lomas de Mijas is also only a short drive from Fuengirola and it’s fantastic beaches. 

Here are 5 of the many beaches in the area that are well worth a visit:

  1. Calahonda – the longest beach in the Mijas Costa and is very popular and often busy. It boasts a wide range of beach bars and facilities that facilitates sunbathers. It is very family-friendly and is a great destination for a family day out at the beach. 

  2. Butiplaya - the blue flag winning beach is well known for its excellent facilities, cleanliness and safety. It has lifeguards stationed during the summer months and is a good beach for children to swim. There are many facilities available for both sunbathers and those interested in water sports such as diving and snorkelling. 

  3. El Bombo - this curvy beach boasts a large bay area that ends in a small rocky cliff, making it perfect for those interested in scuba diving, snorkelling or underwater swimming. There are also sunbeds to rent as well as beach bars. 

  4. Playa del Chaparal - Mijas’ designated nudist beach or playa naturista. The beach is well marked as such to prevent any surprises. It is a nice spot for snorkelling and has a great beach bar that serves food and rents out sunbeds by the beach. 

  5. Playa La Cala de Mijas – this charming semi-urban beach is popular with both tourists and locals and boasts a delightful promenade along with several excellent beach bars and restaurants. The Torre de La Cala fort is also located at this beach which can be explored. 

Las Lomas de Mijas Weather

As the name would imply, The Costa del Sol is famous for its amazing weather and lovely temperatures and Las Lomas de Mijas is the same. 

You will be able to make the most of this weather if you visit during the summer months from May to September. This is the most popular time to visit the Costa del Sol and the beaches and attractions will be busier because of it. 

The off periods still offer some lovely weather. The temperatures are milder than in the summer but are still enjoyable and the sun is often still shining all year round. 

Las Lomas de Mijas Travel Information

Las Lomas de Mijas is only a 25-minute drive from Malaga airport, which is the main airport and entrance to the Costa del Sol. The route through the Costa del Sol is well marked and easy to navigate by car if you wish to rent out a hire car, However, we recommend making use of an airport transfer as the easiest and most cost-effective way to reach your holiday villa. 

Once you have arrived at your villa, getting around is very easy. Taxis are in abundance throughout the Costa del Sol and you can discuss the fare before the journey begins. There is also several reliable and comfortable bus routes that connect Mijas with many of the towns and villages of the Costa del Sol.
