Mijas La Nueva is an urbanisation close to the village of Mijas on the Costa del Sol. Found in the region of Andalucia, this charming and peaceful community is the perfect place to relax away from the noise and crowds of the busier holiday resorts. 

Mijas La Nueva is perfectly located to still offer you a wide range of activities and attractions only a short drive, such as the beaches of Fuengirola or the exciting holiday attractions such as the Mijas Aqua Park or the fantastic zoo at Biopark Fuengirola. 

The community of Mijas La Nueva is made up of a range of townhomes and villas for you to choose from, with each home offering a unique character and charm. Mijas La Nueva also boasts many amenities, such as a tennis court, excellent restaurants and bars and some meticulously maintained lush grounds for you to explore. 

History of Mijas La Nueva

This area of the Costa del Sol has been inhabited by a variety of cultures for hundreds of years, including Phoenicians, Romans and the Moors. This has given the area a rich cultural and historical legacy that can be discovered in the more historical villages such as Mijas Pueblo. 

This primarily agricultural region was transformed by the tourism boom of the ‘50s and ’60s, turning it into the beautiful tourist hotspot that it is today. 

Things to do in Mijas La Nueva

Mijas La Nueva is in a great location with so many attractions and local amenities only a short drive away. Take advantage of the wide range of things to do practically on your doorstep. 

The traditional Andalucian village of Mijas is within walking distance and boasts a wide range of local craft or jewellery shops, museums and scenic walks through the hills. Take in the stunning mountain views that this rustic hill town provides. 

Mijas La Nueva is also only a short drive away from the bustling resort town of Fuengirola and its many excellent restaurants, beautiful beaches and amazing attractions such as Bioparc Fuengirola. 

A slightly further drive away are the resort towns of Torremolinos and Benalmadena, both boasting excellent beaches and their own range of local amenities.

  1. Muralla Gardens – one of our favourite attractions in Mijas. These beautiful gardens are located in the ruins of the old fortress that overlooked and protected the village. This is the perfect place for an afternoon walk and provides some fantastically spectacular views of the whitewashed village of Mijas and the Mediterranean coast. 

  2. Mayan Monkey Mijas - an interesting and fun chocolate museum and factory. Visit to learn the history of chocolate through a fantastic tour and enjoy a couple of free samples. 

  3. Artesania de España – One of the more charming ways to spend an afternoon in Mijas Pueblo is going on the hunt for the most traditional holiday souvenir you find in this cute artisan shop. Found in Calle Malaga, Artesania de España sells beautiful Spanish ceramics that are made by local craftspeople. You will be sure to find a colourful range of eclectic pots to choose from.

  4. Mijas Aqua Park - a great day out for the whole family in Mijas Costa. This amazing water park is one of the most popular attractions of the Costa del Sol and offers a range of rides, restaurants and shows. 

  5. The Virgin of the Rock - a shrine to the patron saint of Mijas. This decorative shrine is set into the rock and is well worth a visit if you are exploring Mijas Pueblo. The vantage point offers some fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. 

The Top 5 Beaches in Mijas La Nueva

Mijas La Nueva is only a short drive away from the Mijas Costa, which has some of the nicest beaches on the Costa del Sol. This 7-mile strip of Spanish coastline has been developed into a tourist’s paradise. 

You have a variety of excellent beaches to choose from, many of which have been awarded with Blue Flags for their excellent facilities and high level of cleanliness. This is the perfect area for a beach villa holiday.

  • Calahonda – the longest beach of the Mijas Costa. Calahonda beach is incredibly popular with families and sunbathers. There is a range of beach bars and restaurants as well as facilities for water sports available. A great spot for families to enjoy on days out.

  • Playa de la Campana – a quieter beach and a great place to hire a sunbed and relax in the sun. This beach has an incredibly high standard of cleanliness thanks to regular litter collections and the many bins available. A great beach where you can relax and get away from it all.

  • Playa La Cala de Mijas – a popular beach with a charming promenade full of restaurants and beach bars. This semi-urban beach is visited frequently by tourists and locals alike throughout the year. There is a wide range of facilities available to cater to sunbathers, scuba divers and those looking to take part in water sports. 

  • El Cabo Rocoso – this rocky beach is a great place to enjoy some snorkelling, surfing or scuba diving. Easily recognisable by the ancient watchtower that marks the border Calahonda and La Cala.

  • Butiplaya - this beautiful beach was awarded a Blue Flag for its excellent facilities and immaculate cleanliness. This beach is well known for being incredibly safe and provides a wide range of facilities for sunbathing and water sports, such as jet skis. 

Mijas La Nueva Weather

The Costa del Sol is famous for its amazing weather, including near-constant sunshine and wonderful temperatures that can reach the mid-30s, and Mijas La Nueva is no different. Look forward to making the most of the fantastic Mediterranean climate during your villa holiday. 

The summer period from May until September is the most popular time to visit Mijas La Nueva. However, during the off periods, you will still be able to expect some nice weather in Mijas La Nueva and the rest of the Costa del Sol. 

Mijas La Nueva Travel Information

Mijas La Nueva is only 20-25 minutes away from Malaga Airport by car and the main routes through the Costa del Sol are well signposted and easy to navigate. There are a variety of ways to reach your holiday villa, but we recommend an airport transfer as the most cost-effective and simplest way to start your holiday. 

The Costa del Sol is very organised for tourism, making taxis and hire cars readily available across the region. There is also a reliable and comfortable local bus network that connects Mijas with other towns in the area, such as Malaga, Fuengirola and Marbella.
