Introduction to Valtocado

Valtocado is a charming urbanisation that is located close to Mijas Pueblo in Andalucia. The area is known as the Costa del Sol and is popular with tourists, especially in the summer months when the temperatures are at their highest. 

Valtocado’s location is perfect for those who are looking to explore the Costa del Sol whilst staying away from the busier and louder resort towns on the coast. 

Valtocado boasts some of the best mountain views on the Costa del Sol thanks to its elevated position. The sunrises off of your terrace are truly breathtaking. 

History of Valtocado

The Costa del Sol has had the privilege of being settled by several different cultures in its history, which has created a rich and interesting culture that can be easily discovered from Valtocado. 

Valtocado is the perfect place to start from as you explore the historic and cultural towns and villages of the Costa del Sol, including Mijas Pueblo and Alhaurin el Grande. 

Things to do in Valtocado

  • Venta Los Condes - an authentically decorated bar in-between Valtocado and Mijas Pueblo. This charming bar boasts a sun-filled open terrace alongside that is decorated with a combination of rustic Spanish tiling and dark wood to create a relaxed atmosphere for you to enjoy. Sample local, home-cooked food including curried chicken and garlic and tomato bread. A special treat is the free tapas option that comes with every alcoholic drink. 

  • Muralla Gardens – one of the most popular attractions in Mijas Pueblo. These beautiful gardens are found in the remains of the old fortress that once overlooked the village and are the perfect place for an afternoon walk. Enjoy the variety of flowers whilst you take in the amazing views of the whitewashed villas of Mijas and the Mediterranean coast. 

  • Plaza del Ayuntamiento - the main square outside the town hall in Alhaurin el Grande. This plaza boasts three historic Roman columns that were found nearby. The plaza also offers a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding mountains. 

  • Artesania de España – a fun and charming way to spend an afternoon in Mijas Pueblo is to explore the Artesania de España, a cute artisan shop. Search for the perfect souvenir amongst the beautiful traditional ceramics that are locally made by craftsman in the area. 

  • Museo del Aceite - a family-run mil and olive oil museum found in Alhaurin el Grande. Take the excellent tour that shows you how olive oil is made as well as the many ways it is used. The tour also includes a range of samples of some of the oils that are produced in the mill. 

The Top 5 Beaches in Valtocado

Valtocado is located a 25 minutes drive away from the glistening sands of Fuengirola and the Mijas Costa. These glorious beaches boast a wide range of facilities including beach beds, restaurants, beach bars and water sports.

  1. Playa el Egido - this beach is located at the mouth of the Fuengirola river and is watched over by Sohail Castle. This beach is popular due to its safe swimming conditions and ample sunbeds. An excellent beach for a family visit.  

  2. Malapesquera Beach - this beach boasts a charming promenade that runs along to the main area near Benalmadena Marina. This beach is where the Festival of the Virgin del Carmen is celebrated in July each year.  

  3. Torreblanca - this beach is located on the border of Fuengirola and Benalmadena and is a nice quieter spot to relax in the sun. It boasts a wide range of amenities such as restaurants and beach bars for you to enjoy. This beach caters to sunbathers, swimmers and those interested in more exciting watersports such as jet skis or windsurfing. 

  4. Santa Ana Beach - boasts a wide range of facilities including beach beds and sunshades as well as facilities for the disabled. The beach is easy to reach by foot, car and bus. There is a variety of beach bars and restaurants present and this beach was awarded a blue flag for its quality facilities. 

  5. Las Gaviotas - one of the central beaches in Fuengirola that boasts many amenities nearby. The area around this beach is well known for its restaurants that offer high-quality food and excellent service. 

Valtocado Weather

Valtocado enjoys the nearly year-round sunshine and warm weather that the Costa del Sol is famous for. 

The summer months have wonderful temperatures that can reach the mid 30’s with the almost constant sun which makes exploring the beautiful landscape a treat. 

The winters are milder but still offers sunny days alongside pleasant temperatures that don’t reach the same highs of the summer months. 

Valtocado Travel Information

Valtocado is a 40 minutes drive away from Malaga Airport by car with a well-signposted route that takes you through scenic Mijas Pueblo. 

Hire cars are readily available across the Costa del Sol but we recommend using an airport transfer to reach your holiday villa as it is the easiest and cost-effective way. 

Once you are at Valtocado it is only a short drive to Mijas Pueblo where you can access the local bus network to reach many of the towns and resorts on the Costa del Sol.
