Information on Torreblanca

An Introduction to Torreblanca, Spain

Once merely just a fishing village, Torreblanca is now one of the most sort-after places in Fuengirola and on the famous Costa del Sol. The town, which is only a short 10 minute drive to the nearby hustle and bustle, has a full range of hotels, traditional eateries, relaxing bars and cute local shops, that you would expect to find in such a tranquil setting, as well as a fabulous sandy beach.

Torreblanca has fast become one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol, and can be reached in around 35 minutes from Malaga International Airport. It's easily accessible by road, rail or bus - therefore it's easy to see why this sophisticated village on the Mediterranean is the right choice for so many.

Torreblanca’s main attraction is the blue flag beach of Torrenostra, boasting a pleasant promenade and landscaped gardens, that has games to keep the younger family members entertained.

Wherever you decide to break on the Costa del Sol, you are spoilt with lovely beaches, endless sunshine and plenty of options for food, drink and shopping - something for everyone on holiday.

A History of Torreblanca

Once a tiny fishing village, Torreblanca has become a vibrant part of the province with much character. It's now home to many lovely tapas bars, cafes and restaurants, alongside some of the best traditional shops and other boutiques on the island.

The town was founded around the middle of the 13th century. Despite being raided by the Barbary pirates, precious jewels and the sacred host were recovered a year later, both rich in cultural and historical importance.

Things to do in Torreblanca

On top of Torreblancas’ dramatic history and golden beaches, discover an abundance of traditional tapas bars, coastal cafes and restaurants, infused with local chic boutiques and other interesting shops to explore. The town and its inhabitants are very welcoming, offering up a huge array of independent shops, watersports, and it's boundless sea views.

If sunshine is on the agenda, Fuengirolas' town square is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink in its sun trap. Or, there are miles of lovely trails throughout the local area, allowing hikers to hit the road and enjoy the Costa del Sol’s landscapes. You will find plenty of family-friendly activities to take part in, including:

  • Playa Torrenostra - just 3km from the town centre, this blue flag, sandy beach is great for children thanks to the two large breakwaters, that slow the current down, making it the perfect place for swimming and enjoying the crystal-clear waters.

  • Torre del Marqués - also known as Doña Blanca, and located around 2km from the town towards the coast, the medieval building boasts a hefty square tower with four floors to discover. Enjoy the wonderful views whilst visiting a meaningful and cultural part of Torreblanca's history.

  • Parque Natural del Prat de Cabanes - known as one of the Costa del Sol's most important Natural Parks, these grounds allow you to observe a number of natures creations including colourful birds, fish and possibly a European pond turtle if you're lucky!

  • Mundo Fantasia - located at the Marina d’Or Resort, this theme park is packed with attractions and safely enclosed by medieval walls. Fun-packed activities include go-karting, speeding tree trunks, a pirate ship, trampoline jumping and a merry-go-round, as well as a new 4D cinema.

  • Summer Festival Torreblanca - the popular summer celebration is held during the final week of August each year, in honour of the patron saint, St.Bartholomew. Expect plenty of family fun and traditional sightings including bulls, giant paella and a spectacular parade.

  1. Playa Torrenostra - the most popular beach for locals and tourists, this Blue Flag, sandy beach is ideal for the entire family, making it the perfect place for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the crystal-clear waters. Nearby is the promenade for a lovely stroll and greenery for the kids to enjoy.

  3. Playa de Torreblanca - winner of the Blue Flag and Q award for quality in tourism in 2016, this beach is a must visit thanks to it's relaxed atmosphere and admirable horseshoe-like shape that extends beautifully into the sea.

  4. La Playa de Santa Amalia - directly connected to Playa del Castillo, also known as El Castillo, the beach has experienced a natural extension, thanks to receiving a Blue Flag in 2018. One of the longest beaches in Fuengirola and a go-to sunbathing spot for tourists and locals.

  5. Playa San Francisco - popular family beach located next to the port, generally very busy and lively with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and a tourist information office nearby. Enjoy the crystal clear waters and dark sands all year around.

Torreblanca Weather

The Costa del Sol is generally known for its consistent temperatures, and Torreblanca is no different.

The Mediterranean climate is thoroughly enjoyable in the summer time from May until the end of September. The remaining months are also pleasant, but not quite as warm, but overall it's a place you can expect nice weather all year round.

Hire cars and taxis are plentiful throughout the Costa del Sol, but we always recommend an airport transfer to make the arrival to your Fuengirolaholiday rental a breeze.

Buses run fairly regularly in Torreblanca to Fuengirola town centre and other destinations along the coast including Torremolinos, Marbella and even as far as Algeciras and Estepona.
