Bodrum Gumusluk Lake Tuzla Turkey Yalikavak

Palmarina Yalikavak

Palmarina in Yalikavak (previously known as ‘Port Bodrum Yalikavak’) is set to be the largest marina in Turkey when it is completed in May 2014. It is already pretty impressive with its state of the art design and berths for over 450 yachts (this will increase to over 700 berths when it has been completed). If you are lucky enough to be sailing into the marina on your private yacht you will have full access to all facilities. If, like most of us mere mortals, you will be arriving by foot then access to where the boats are moored is restricted. However, there is still plenty to look at.

Yalikavak’s Charm

We have just returned from our third trip to Yalikavak and once again we had a wonderful time.

Wondering why our third trip well … It’s such a lovely place it draws us back. The village is small enough to have plenty going on both day and night. Whether its browsing the small shops, cay ( tea) at the local cafes, or picking up the freshly baked bread, nothing is hurried its all at a relaxed pace.

Turkish Night at Sofis Restaurant, Yalikavak

Having dined at Sofis Restaurant (and spent afternoons guzzling cocktails there) we decided to try out their ‘Turkish Night’ held every Thursday evening.  We were always impressed with the food and the friendly service in this beachfront eatery in the centre of Yalikavak and it sounded like good fun!

The Bodrum Peninsula

Yaliakavak old marina lined with restaurants offering beautiful sea viewsOk, I’ll admit it.  Before I first visited Turkey 6 years ago I was sceptical about going there.  My preconceptions were based on reading awful British magazine articles about middle aged women visiting resorts there and picking up young Turkish husbands who then proceeded to take all of their life savings.  I had heard about the busy resorts with lager louts, cheap cocktails and overly friendly bar staff and decided it wasn’t for me.  My first trip to the Bodrum Peninsula showed me just how wrong I had been!
