Practical information about Mijas, Costa del sol

If you’re planning a villa holiday in Mijas, Costa del sol this year, then here is some practical information that you may find useful.

 

 

Climate

Mijas, like the rest of the holiday destinations on the Costa del Sol, enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable, temperatures are an average of 32 ºC in summer.

Health

Mijas has a Health centre and two dental clinics. The public health centre is available for everyone with Spanish residency. EU citizens can gain access to these facilities using the EHIC form which was the former E111 form. There are voluntary interpreters for English speakers assisting in the centre on Wednesday morning.

Chemist (Pharmacy)

There are two pharmacies in Mijas.  Farmacia Don Antonio Nieves Moreno is located on Avenida Mejico- Tel. 952 486 438. The other can be found at the Plaza de Constitucion – Tel. 952 485 042.

Local Farmers Market

Offering locally farmed fruit & vegetables along with fresh meat & fish, the local Farmer’s Market is the best place in town to buy fresh food. You will also be able to find fresh bread, wine, herbs and spices and there is even a shoe repair man.
The market is open Monday – Saturday (8am-2pm) and is located on C/ del Pilar.

Supermarket

There is a small supermarket on the way into Mijas Pueblo, on your right in Avenida Mejico. The local market is situated next to the Post Office in Calle Pilar.

Tourist Office

The Tourist Office is located on the lower square (Plaza Virgen de la Pena) next to the Town Hall. The Tourist Office offers maps of the town and walking mountain routes, local newspapers in several languages and information on various day trips available in the area. There is also a scaled model of the village in the office and the staff can answer any questions you may have about Mijas.

Opening times:

Winter: Weekdays 09:00 to 19:00. Summer: 09:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, Saturdays: 10:00 to 14:00

Travel

There are regular bus services from and to the towns of Alhaurin el Grande, Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena Costa, Benalmadena Pueblo, Coín, Malaga, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. Bus timetables and prices can be found here.

One of the most distinctive methods of travel in Mijas is by donkey-taxi. Tours start from 15€.
Horse carriages are also offered for tours around the village. Each carriage can accommodate up to four people. The price for a tour is 20€.
